Course Description
Cyber 101–Online (Class Contents: Broken into three parts)
Part 1: Computer Hardware Basics
Computers surround us everywhere and are part of everything! A basic understanding of devices and how they work is vital in our hi-tech culture. This content covers fundamentals of personal computers & mobile devices – the parts that comprise them, how they work, and basic troubleshooting tools and techniques. Devices covered:

  • Module 1: Personal Computers
  • Module 2: Laptop
  • Module 3: Other Mobile Devices

Part 2: Operating Systems Basics
All devices require an operating system (OS) whether personal computer, game console, smartphone, smart TV plus more. Understanding the basics of how operating systems function is a foundational skill everyone needs. This content touches on configuration and securing devices. The content explains the different types of OS, what they are and what they do. Operating systems covered:

  • Windows Operating System
  • Linux Overview
  • Mobile Device Connectivity

Part 3: Introduction to Cybersecurity
An introduction to cybersecurity covers ways to protect online privacy & personal information. This content explains the threat companies, government agencies, educational organizations and all of us confront daily. Topics covered:

  • Module 1: Introduction to Cybersecurity
  • Module 2: Attacks, Concepts, and Techniques
  • Module 3: Protecting your Data and Privacy
  • Module 4 Protecting the Organization
  • Module 5 Will your Future Be in Cybersecurity

24 Hours – No book required

Dates
March 4, 2024 – May 10, 2024*
Weekly meeting Tuesdays from 6-7 pm via Zoom
*No Class April 1 – April 5, due to faculty/student break
