COURSE INFORMATION (Schedule, Required Books, Costs, and Pre-Requisites)
Covid Vaccine/Flu Shot Information: While Gaston College is not mandating that students be vaccinated against COVID, it is a requirement for many of our clinical sites, and we must abide by any safety protocols or requirements put into place by our external agencies with which we partner for clinical rotations. All Phlebotomy students are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and influenza due to clinical compliance requirements. Proof of vaccination is required.
PBT-3022 Phlebotomy Experience – 211.5 hours
This course provides the theory and clinical experiences needed for the proper collection of blood and other specimens used for diagnostic testing. Emphasis is placed on ethics, legalities, medical terminology, safety, and universal precautions, health care delivery systems, patient relations, anatomy and physiology, and specimen collection. Upon completion, students should be able to safely perform procedures necessary for specimen collections on patients in various healthcare settings and may be eligible for national certification as phlebotomy technicians.

Theory/lab will begin on 5/21 in the David Belk Cannon Building on the Dallas Campus and online via Blackboard. Clinical rotation will begin on 6/24 and will be held off-site at a pre-assigned local medical facility.

All phlebotomy students will be required to meet clinical compliance prior to clinical field training.
Class space is limited and enrollment is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please be advised that clinical hours may vary between 6:00 am – 5:00 pm. Attendance is required in clinical or time must be made up.
Estimated Course Costs:
- Tuition – $250 (due upon registration)
- Physical Exam and Immunizations – $200

- Criminal Background check, drug screening, medical document – $104
- Uniforms – $85.00 and up
- Professional watch with a second hand – $29.99
- Shoes – Approximately $50.00 students may purchase their own shoes (all leather or leather-like) at a place of their choice
- State written and skills exam (after course is completed) – $140
Pre-Requisites:
Students must be at least 18 years of age (by the first date of the clinical portion of the course) and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Under 18 Registration Rule: If you are under 18 at the time of registration, but will be 18 by the first date of the clinical portion of the course, students are able to be registered by completing a Continuing Education registration form. To obtain this form, please contact the Registrar’s Office at gcregistrar@gaston.edu, or by calling 704-922-6232, to request a Continuing Education registration form, or you may register in person at the Dallas Campus. Once you have been registered, you must call the Business Office at 704-922-6414 to make payment for the course over the phone. You are not fully registered until payment has been made.
If you meet both of the above pre-requisites for this course, you may register by following the following Registration Options.

Online
Visit www.gaston.edu and click on the Self-Service icon.
Select the blue Continuing Ed. Registration icon near the bottom of the page.
Select “Register and Pay for Continuing Education Classes.”
Search the course topic using the KEYWORD “Phlebotomy”.
Select the course for which you would like to register using the check box on the left side of the table, and click Submit at the bottom of the webpage.
Complete the online registration form and payment information. Be prepared to pay with a credit card using Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express.
Notes when using Online registration:
If you have an address change, name change, etc., we will need this updated information so we can contact you in case of a class change/cancellation or refund. Entering different information on the registration form will not update any existing records. If your information has changed, please call or email the Registration Department at 704-922-6232 or gcregistrar@gaston.edu.
Online registration is not an option for all classes, or if the course fee will be waived. Credit card payments will only be accepted with Online and Walk In registration.
You cannot DROP/WITHDRAW from classes using Self-Service. If you need to drop or withdraw prior to the class start date, please contact the Registration Department at 704.922.6232 or gcregistrar@gaston.edu.

Refund Policy
If a student officially drops from a class or classes before the 10 percent date of the class(es), a 75 percent tuition refund will be given for the class(es) dropped. A 100% refund will be made if the student drops from the class prior to the class start date. No refunds will be given after the 10 percent date. If a course fails to materialize, refunds are automatically processed. (The refund policy is subject to change.
