heritage, and more recent immigration patterns.
This customized trip for Gaston College includes breakfast, welcome and farewell dinners, housing and transportation.
Each day will begin with an excursion into the surrounding area, followed by instructor-led session.

Day 1 – Saturday, Dec. 14
Departure from Charlotte; Arrive in Costa Rica; San Jose Walking Tour; Welcome dinner
Day 2 – Sunday, Dec. 15
Travel to Cahuita; Coffee Farm; Irazu Volcano
Day 3 – Monday, Dec. 16
Cahuita National Park Tour and Service Projects; Zipline; Group Dinner and Local Dance Intro
Day 4 – Tuesday, Dec. 17
Travel to Manzanillo; Tour of Manzanillo and Gandoca National Park; Caribbean Cooking Lesson
Day 5 – Wednesday, Dec. 18
Bribri Indigenous Community Visit; Bribri Waterfall; Playa Negra; Surfing Lesson, Nocturnal Wildlife Hike
Day 6 – Thursday, Dec. 19
Cahuita National Park Coral Reef Snorkeling; Caribbean Farewell Party

Payment Information:
- Make a trip deposit of at least $600 by Monday, Aug. 26, 2024, to secure your spot on the trip.
- Pay 50% of the remaining balance by Monday, Sept. 16, 2024.
- The final payment of the remaining balance is due Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024.
How to apply:
Step 1: Complete the interest form.
Step 2: Make sure you have been vaccinated and have had a booster shot for Covid-19. Make copies of your shot records.
Step 3: If you do not have a passport, fill out the paperwork and get it submitted. It takes several weeks/months to get a passport back. Passports must be valid until at least six months after the trip.
Step 4: Make a $600 deposit at the College Business Office to hold your spot by Aug. 26, 2024. This will be applied to the total program cost ($100 of the deposit is non-refundable). Payments can be made in person or over the phone by calling 704.922.6435.
Step 5: Register for the HUM 120 course for Fall 2024. All participants must register for this class.
