Gaston College Students shine at SkillsUSA conference

The Gaston College SkillsUSA team had an impressive showing in their first participation at the SkillsUSA North Carolina state conference, which was held in April 2023 in Greensboro. The conference, the largest showcase of Career and Technical Education in the state, featured over 120 skilled, technical, and leadership development competitive events with over 2,100 students competing.

In the Medical Assisting competition, Gaston College students earned the top three awards. Rebekah Pennington won the Gold, Holly Caulder won the Silver, and Julissa Trejo won the Bronze.

For Television (Video) Production, Gaston College’s Team B won the Gold award and Team A won the Silver award.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce.

“We are so proud of our students,” said Dr. Lisa Albright-Jurs, Dean of Career & Technical Education. “Their success at this conference is a result of their hard work and determination and we look forward to Gaston College’s SkillsUSA teams excelling in future competitions as they prepare for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations.”
