Gaston College Hosting Virtual Open House on October 20, 2020

Gaston College will host a virtual open house from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2020. This interactive event is a great way for high school and other prospective students to learn more about the outstanding programs, resources, and services available at the College.

“This event is for anyone seeking the next step in their education,” said Audrey Sherrill, Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. “Our virtual open house will be similar to what students would expect to do at an in-person event. They will get a chance to learn more about the College and how to start their college career or return to finish a degree. We want Gaston College to be their college of choice.”

Attendees will join video and live information sessions where they can ask questions and get answers from Gaston College faculty and staff. A new 10-minute session will start every 15 minutes, so no matter when participants log into the event, they will be able to join any session. A question and answer discussion will be held at the end of each presentation.

Topics will include:

  • Getting Started at Gaston College.
  • Paying for College.
  • High School Dual Enrollment.
  • Programs of study and career prospects in those fields.

In addition, over 50 virtual booths will be available where attendees can get information about student services, student clubs and organizations, transfer opportunities, military and veteran services, supportive services for students with disabilities, programs in the Health and Human Services, Arts and Sciences, Business and Information Technology, and Engineering and Industrial Technologies divisions from the College’s more than 100 programs of study, and much more.

“College representatives will be available to help prospective students to learn all about Gaston College and help answer any questions they may have,” said Jennifer Nichols, Associate Vice President of Student Services/Dean of Admissions and Educational Partnerships. “The virtual event platform we will be using, called Hopin, is easy to use and all you need is a computer, tablet or cell phone to connect and attend the open house. Prospective students can share their experience with their family members and friends as they participate in live chat and information sessions.”

“Also, participants will have the opportunity to enter to win prizes. Prizes include a $500 scholarship, a $250 scholarship, an iPad, Chick-fil-A gift cards and Gaston College swag,”said Nichols.

This virtual event is open to the community.
