PIRATE PROMISE

The Pirate Promise is a partnership with East Carolina University (ECU) that is designed to improve transfer student access and success. Students who are interested in transferring to ECU should consider participating in the Pirate Promise program. This transfer program is for students who are in their first year of coursework at their community college to attend special events, receive advising assistance, and support before they apply to ECU.

BENEFITS

In addition to the student services you receive at Gaston College, Pirate Promise students receive these benefits:

  • guaranteed admission to ECU with a completed associate degree 
  • waived ECU application fee
  • joint academic advising
  • joint financial aid counseling
  • scholarship opportunities
  • eligibility to purchase an ECU One student ID card to get access to:
    • athletic tickets
    • campus recreation opportunities
    • campus events
    • library resources
    • community writing center
  • access to ECU libraries
  • access to Virtual Job Shadow, ECU Career Services’ virtual workshop series
  • eligibility to purchase a student parking permit
  • participate in select campus activities including “invitation only” Pirate Promise events at ECU

ELIGIBILITY

Requirements to be considered for the Pirate Promise Program

  • be enrolled in an Early College, Career and College Promise program, or in your first year of enrollment prior to applying for the Pirate Promise
  • complete the Pirate Promise application
  • commit to full-time status (a minimum of 12 semester hours) at Gaston College unless enrolled in an Early College or Career and College Promise program
  • complete degree requirements at Gaston College for an Associate in Arts (AA), Associate in Science (AS), Associate in Fine Arts in Visual Arts (AFAVA), Associate in Engineering (AE), Associate in Applied Science in Early Childhood Education (AAS), Associate Degree Nursing (ADN), or an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in a technical program (approved list)
  • submit an ECU admissions application, provide supplemental documents, and meet admissions requirements as stated in the ECU Undergraduate Catalog
  • maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5

The Pirate Promise program does not guarantee admission to a specific major or program.

HOW DO I APPLY?

  1. Create your ECU Pirate Promise account.
    Application review takes 4-6 weeks. Your community college will verify your eligibility.
  2. Submit an application.
  3. Contact us if you have any application questions at piratepromise@ecu.edu.
