Cosmetology Students Raise the Bar in their Commitment to Community Service

The Cosmetic Arts and Sciences Association Club (CASA) received Gaston College’s Club cos awardof the Year Award for the 2011-2012 school year.

Tanisha Williams, coordinator of Student Activities and Special Projects, said CASA was chosen because of its community service involvement and club participation. To win the award, CASA had to meet certain criteria involving "community service, club activities and contributions to the operation, maintenance and expansion of their club to benefit the student body." Gaston College Math Club Scores in the Top Ten in Gainesville, GA Math Competition

The Gaston College Math Club placed ninth in the team competition at the 18th Annual math club smGainesville State College Math Tournament. The tournament was held April 14 at Gainesville State College in Georgia. The event featured team and individual competitions in calculus, trigonometry, geometry, statistics and algebra. Participants were students enrolled in a two-year college or a college with only a two-year math degree program.

Gaston College competed against 31 other teams in the southeast region. Club members Corey Hartsell and Simon Nocher, of Lincolnton, finished fourth and first place, and Corey Hartsell won fourth place, respectively, against 144 participants in the individual competition. (read more)


 Gaston College Announces the Promotion of Sam Buff to Textile Technology Center Director

Sam Buff has been named the director of the Textile Technology Center at Gaston College. Sam BuffBuff joined the college as a textile testing specialist in 2002 and started his new position April 1.

"I am happy, excited, and honored to have been chosen to lead," he said. "I feel like I know the Textile Technology Center very well. I helped build the team that is in place and look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead."

Buff has many goals for the Textile Technology Center located on the Kimbrell Campus in Belmont. (Read more)

Gaston College has contracted with College Foundation, Inc. (CFI School Services) to complete verification of 2012-2013 Free cfiApplications for Federal Student Aid (FAFSAs) sent to Gaston College. 

If your FAFSA is selected for verification, CFI School Services will be contacting you and requesting the documents needed to complete the verification process required for financial aid. Please send those documents directly to CFI School Services as instructed in their letter or e-mail.

The Gaston College Financial Aid Office is available to help you submit your documents to CFI via fax, scan, or mail. Please contact us at 704.922.6227 if you have questions.
Gaston College may be requesting other documents from you, and you will need to send those documents directly to the Financial Aid Office at GC. Your prompt response to all requests will accelerate the review of your request for financial aid for 2012-2013.

WSGE to Hold Spring Membership Drive

Gaston College’s radio station, WSGE 91.7 FM is gearing up for the spring 2012 wsge logoMembership Drive. The 10 day drive will kick off on Wednesday, May 2 with live music, special premiums and an iPad3 giveaway. The station is a non-commercial, public radio station that airs an eclectic mix of music, from a blend of local and emerging artists to Blues, Big Band and Beach/ shag. The station combines locally produced programming with nationally syndicated programs to bring their listeners the best music and news possible.

WSGE listeners are loyal and dedicated and help provide the support the station needs to maintain the quality programming the listeners know and love. During the drive, listeners have the opportunity to become WSGE members through their financial support. The spring 2012 fundraising goal is $55,000 and will help the station defray costs associated with renovating the studios, continuing the online stream, and hiring support staff. This year the station will debut a new MemberCard program. The MemberCard program provides a 2 for 1 discount at over 300 restaurants throughout North and South Carolina.

From now until April 29th, supporters will be entered into a drawing for a 16-gi iPad3. For more information about the iPad3 drawing, the MemberCard or the WSGE Spring 2012 Membership drive, visit the radio station’s website at www.wsge.org.

Our top priority is to create excellence in all online courses to enhance the web-based learning of students.

The benefit of SAIL is threefold: to promote student learning; respond to increased demand for distance education; and expand our commitment to online course excellence and to distance education as a viable method of course delivery.
