Gaston College 2021 United Way campaign results

Gaston College employees generously contributed to the College’s 2021 United Way campaign, which ran from October 27 to December 1, 2020. Pledges to the campaign will support over 30 local programs in Gaston and Lincoln counties. Those programs include the Alliance for Children and Youth, Boys &Girls Club of Greater Gaston, ARC of Gaston County, Cancer Services of Gaston County, American Red Cross of Gaston County and of Lincoln County, Hesed House of Hope, Helping Hands Health Clinic – Kintegra Health, and Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club, among others.

In an email on October 22, Dr. John Hauser, President of Gaston College, encouraged faculty and staff to pledge their support to the Gaston College United Way Campaign and set the goal at $10,000. Citing the COVID-19 pandemic, Hauser said, “During this time when we can’t go to football games, fall or apple festivals, or College gatherings, working as a team, Together WE can Create a Successful United Way campaign.” As a lighthearted incentive for donating to the campaign, Hauser said, “If we meet or exceed the goal, I will dress in costume for the next College video.”

Katrina Conley, Administrative Assistant for Vice President of Administrative Services, coordinated the College’s campaign initiative. She announced on December 17 that 75 percent of the $10,000 goal had been met and thanked all those who pledged their support. “Your donations will make a significant impact on many lives in Gaston and Lincoln counties,” she said. “Some of our friends, acquaintances, family members, and coworkers will use the essential United Way agencies in 2021 and, gratefully, because of kind people like you, programs will be in place to serve them and us if needed.” Conley also noted that Dr. Hauser agreed to wear a “partial costume” in an early 2021 College video. Details of the costume were not revealed.
