Current Students

The Academic Year

During the academic year, Upward Bound students participate in various academic and personal enrichment activities.

Students are also required to attend tutorial sessions at their school, and/or through approved Alternate Tutoring options during the academic year. Upward Bound Academic Advisors have scheduled days at your schools each week, and students are expected to meet with their academic advisors on a monthly basis.

Summer Academy

Each summer, Upward Bound students participate in a six-week Summer Academy program on Gaston College’s campus. The Summer Academy provides exposure to college and on-campus experiences, and during the program students:

  • Take classes in core subjects such as English, Math, Science, and Foreign Language. Students also select elective classes related to the arts, computers, self-awareness, finances, and more.
  • Participate in STEM and Research activities
  • Engage in community service projects
  • Tour college campuses
  • Take part in cultural outings and trips

Individual Academic Plan

The Individual Academic Plan (IAP) is a strategy developed between you and your Academic Advisor to assist in formulating a plan of action for your educational and personal pursuits. To update your IAP, please contact your advisor.
