Our College Transfer degrees in Teacher Preparation are perfect for students interested in continuing to complete a bachelor’s degree to become a teacher at any of the 15 University of North Carolina (UNC) system four-year institutions and 23 North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU). 

The Associate in Arts or Science in Teacher Preparation includes required general education courses and electives focused on education for students interested in transferring to a four-year university and continuing on for a bachelor’s degree in education. Admission to a College of Education program is competitive and admission is not guaranteed. To be eligible for the transfer of credits under the AATP/ASTP Uniform Articulation Agreements, community college graduates must obtain a grade of “C” or better in each course and an overall GPA of at least 2.7 on a 4.0 scale.

Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation (AATP)

The Associate of Arts in Teacher Preparation (AATP) is intended for students who want to transfer to a four-year institution and pursue an education program major, in a non-science or math-related curriculum. AATP students who complete this degree, with at least a 2.7 GPA out of 4.0 scale, are able to complete a bachelor’s degree to become a teacher at any of the 15 University of North Carolina (UNC) system and 23 North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU) four-year institutions.

Associate in Science in Teacher Preparation (ASTP)

The Associate of Science in Teacher Preparation (ASTP) is intended for students who want to transfer to a four-year institution and pursue an education program major, in a science or math-related curriculum. ASTP students who complete this degree, with at least a 2.7 GPA out of 4.0 scale, are able to complete a bachelor’s degree to become a teacher at any of the 15 University of North Carolina (UNC) system and 23 North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU) four-year institutions.
