Gaston College loans Electronic Computing Devices to help students succeed

Gaston College is committed to helping its students succeed despite the current restrictions imposed by COVID 19. From instituting “GC Safe” recommendations to keep the College community safe and well, to adapting classes for remote learning when possible, Gaston College has been taking proactive measures since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. The Technology Services department has put in place another initiative to support students’ educational progress.

Current registered students can now borrow LENOVO laptop computers or hotspot devices, which provide a wireless access point for connection to the internet. Only one Electronic Computing Device of each type per person may be checked out to be used for one semester. Each student must sign an Electronic Computing Loan Agreement and Use Policy. Students are responsible for the safe and timely return of the device(s) at the end of the semester, and ECD borrowing privileges will be suspended for the remainder of the academic year if devices are not returned on time. If the ECDs are lost or unreturned, a replacement charge of $1,000 for the laptop and/or $100 for the hotspot will be placed on the borrowing student’s Gaston College financial account.

“We realize that COVID restrictions may have affected some students’ access to computers and WiFi connections,” said Savonne McNeill, Chief Information Officer at Gaston College. “Providing technology resources to students helps them with completing courses and staying connected.”

Gaston College has a limited number of Electronic Computing Devices available for loan to current Gaston College students with a valid College ID Card only, on a first-come, first-serve basis. Appointments are required and can be made by calling Technology Services at 704-922-6420. These devices are required to be returned at the end of the Spring 2021 semester.
