Gaston College offers the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) V in the Katherine Harper Testing Center on the main campus. The TEAS V is given to students applying for admissions into our Associate Degree Nursing (ADN), Practical Nursing, or LPN to RN programs.

Gaston College currently holds all TEAS testing sessions on the main campus on the second floor of the Craig Arts & Sciences Building in the Katherine Harper Testing Center located in room 209. See Directions tab for campus map. We offer the ATI TEAS Test. The cost of the exam is $55.

Preparing for ATI TEAS Test

The TEAS test is required for students applying to the following programs:

  • Medical Assisting
  • Registered Nursing (ADN) and LPN-RN Bridge Program
  • Veterinary Medical Technology
  • Practical Nursing (LPN)
  • Phlebotomy (Certificate)

The test is taken on a computer and is scored immediately upon completion. A four function calculator is provided online with the test.

Students applying to the Medical Assisting, ADN, LPN-RN, LPN, or Phlebotomy program take four timed sections. The sections are:

  • Reading: 64 minutes, 53 questions
  • Math: 54 minutes, 36 questions
  • Science: 63 minutes, 53 questions
  • English and Language Usage: 28 minutes, 28 questions

If the program of study requires all four sections, each section must be completed. Some schools (such as ECPI) only administer two sections of the test and we cannot accept partial TEAS scores.

Students applying to the Veterinary Medical Technology program take two timed sections. The sections are:

  • Math: 45 questions-56 minutes
  • Reading: 40 questions-50 minutes

 

Medical Assisting

Applications for the fall 2018 Medical Assisting program are accepted from January-July. Applicants must have a minimum composite score of 58 on the TEAS V exam to receive full acceptance into the Medical Assisting program.

Students can take TEAS once every 60 days in order to reach their desired score. Scores will not be accepted if the test was taken at different TEAS testing site within 60 days of a TEAS test attempt.

 

Registered Nursing (ADN) and LPN-RN Bridge Program

Registered Nursing (ADN) and LPN to RN Alternate Schedule Option
Applications for the 2018 fall ADN program are accepted from September 1, 2017 through December 5, 2017 at 3:00 PM. Applicants must have a minimum composite score of 65 on the ATI TEAS exam before applying to the program.

Students can take TEAS once every 60 days in order to reach their desired score. Scores will not be accepted if the test was taken at different TEAS testing site within 60 days of a TEAS test attempt.
Applications for the 2018 summer LPN to RN option are accepted from August 1, 2017 through November 15, 2017 at 3:00 PM. Applicants must achieve a 90% probability of passing score on the ATI PN Comprehensive Predictor Probability of Passing NCLEX PN before applying to the program.

Students can take Comprehensive Predictor once every 60 days in order to reach their desired score. All applicants to the LPN to RN Alternate Schedule Option must take the Comprehensive Predictor in the Katherine Harper Testing Center at Gaston College.

 

Veterinary Medical Technology

Applications for the fall 2018 Veterinary Technology program are accepted from August 1, 2017 through February 1, 2018 by the end of the day. Students applying to the Vet-Tech program are required to take the Math and Reading sections of the TEAS only.

A composite score of 50 is required on the Math section, and a composite score of 57 is required on the Reading Section.

Students are allowed to take the TEAS test twice during an application period and are required to wait 30 days between testing dates.

 

Practical Nursing (LPN)

Applications for the fall 2018 Practical Nursing program are accepted from October 1, 2017 through March 1, 2018. Applicants must have a minimum composite score of 60 on the ATI TEAS exam before applying to the program.

Students can take TEAS once every 60 days in order to reach their desired score. Scores will not be accepted if the test was taken at different TEAS testing site within 60 days of a TEAS test attempt.

 

Phlebotomy

Applications for the spring 2018 Phlebotomy program are accepted from May through December 1, 2017. Applicants must have a composite score of 55 on the TEAS V before applying to the program.

Students can take TEAS once every 60 days in order to reach their desired score. Scores will not be accepted if the test was taken at different TEAS testing site within 60 days of a TEAS test attempt.

 

Registering for the TEAS V

The registration deadline for any session is 5:00 PM on the day before that session.

  • Step 1: Go to the Gaston College Business Office (on the Dallas or Lincoln campus) and pay the testing fee. Make sure to tell the cashier that you are paying for the TEAS.
  • Step 2:

Main Campus – take your receipt to the Katherine Harper Testing Center, Room 209, (on the 2nd floor of the Craig Arts & Science Building) and see the Receptionist to schedule an appointment.
Lincoln Campus – take your receipt to the Counselor on the second floor of the Main Building, Room 209B, in order to schedule an appointment.
You will not be registered for the test until you have completed Step #2!

If you do not live in the area, we can accept payment for the TEAS by telephone. Please contact the Business Office at 704-922-2259 to pay with credit/debit card.

Once you have scheduled an appointment, you will be given a basic information sheet about the test. All students are required to visit www.atitesting.com and sign up for your username and password. You will need to have this completed before your test date.

ATI charges $27 to send a TEAS transcript to another institution. Gaston College does not send official TEAS scores to other institutions; you must request your scores to be sent through ATI’s website: www.atitesting.com

 

ATI TEAS Test Prep Classes

The Economic and Workforce Division is offering a no-cost ATI TEAS Prep Class. The class will prepare test-takers for all four parts of the ATI TEAS Test: Mathematics, Science, Reading, and English and Language Usage. Students are encouraged to attend all four-days since a different subject is reviewed each day.

This 4-day class is held at the end of each month to prepare test-takers for the next month’s testing sessions. We offer a morning and an evening class. The morning class starts at 8:30 am and ends at 12:30 pm. the evening class starts at 5 pm and ends at 9 pm.

Pre-registration is required as well as attendance the first and last meeting of class. To pre-register email woodall.lisa@gaston.edu and let us know whether you are registering for the AM or PM class. Include your first and last name as well as a phone number.

Space is limited to 25.

 ATI TEAS test prep class schedule

 Testing Process:

To schedule your ATI TEAS Test, contact the Katherine Harper Testing Center by calling 704-922-2433. The test is offered on the first and third Wednesdays of each month. During the month of February, the test is offered every Wednesday except the 28th.
