TRiO SSS Services

Academic Advising

Upon acceptance into the program, each student is assigned an advisor, which the student will meet with periodically. The advisor will work closely with students and monitor their academic progress throughout their academic careers at Gaston College.

Financial Literacy

TRiO SSS offers an array of financial literacy education workshops geared towards assisting students in securing the maximum amounts of financial aid. Workshops are also designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to manage their personal finances.

Transfer Planning

Once students earn their degrees at Gaston College, TRiO SSS fully promotes the transfer process to a four-year college or university. Through assessments, students can explore career interests, personality traits, and learning styles. Advisors provide aid in completing admissions applications and arrange visits to various colleges and universities at no charge to students.

Volunteer and Community Involvement

TRiO SSS students can choose from a variety of community outreach opportunities each year. This is a dynamic aspect of the TRiO SSS Program; students are encouraged to lead and engage in one or more community service projects. Participation in community projects is an essential element of an individual’s academic journey.

Cultural and Social Events

TRiO SSS students are privileged to take part in a variety of activities each academic year for free or at a minimum cost. These events include college tours, performance art, and other opportunities for students to expand their horizons.
