WSGE 91.7 FM Fall 2022 Fund Drive

WSGE 91.7 FM, the award-winning radio station at Gaston College, kicked off its fall fund drive on Sunday, October 23. The station has a goal of raising $65,000 before the campaign ends on Saturday, November 5.

The theme for the fund drive is “Carolina Musicians—Worldwide Appeal,” which reflects the station’s commitment to featuring the music of native Carolinians like the Avett Brothers, Band of Oz, Marcus King, The Main Event Band, and others. “We are celebrating all things Carolina this fall,” said station manager Cathis Hall, “including our rich and varied musical heritage that resonates with so many.”

On Monday, October 24, at 1 p.m., WSGE will air an interview with Michael Cansler of Hickory, N.C. Cansler is the winner of the station’s “91 Seconds of Fame” contest. His song “Small Town” was voted the best by station listeners in the contest, which is held annually to give Carolina-based and independent artists an opportunity to have their songs heard by thousands of listeners and potentially added to WSGE’s permanent music rotation.

In another nod to Carolina musicians, WSGE is partnering with the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame to promote their October induction ceremony, which will welcome five artists to the Hall’s honor roll. They are Nnenna Freelon, Janet Paschal, Stephanie Mills, Bernard Edwards, and Charlie Poole.

“We love the Carolinas for many reasons,” said Hall, “and WSGE’s showcase of regional artists, together with beach music, blues, shag, AAA, and Americana, is at the top of the list.”
