Gaston College Offers Fast Track Job Training & Certification in Manufacturing with Certified Production Technician Program

The Gaston College Center for Workforce Excellence offers a Certified Production Technician program that is designed to raise the performance level of production workers. Through certification, the CPT program recognizes individuals who demonstrate mastery of the core competencies of manufacturing production at the front line (entry-level through front-line supervisor).

CPT Certification benefits both employees and employers. The goal of the program is to raise the performance level of production workers, which will assist the workers in finding higher-wage jobs and will help employers ensure their workforce will boost their companies’ productivity and competitiveness.

The CPT program was developed under the guidelines of the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council, an industry-led training, assessment and certification system based on the core skills and knowledge needed by the nation’s front-line production employees. MSSC issues certificates upon successful completion of each of the program’s four Production Modules: Introduction to Manufacturing, Work-Readiness Skills and Safety; Quality Practices and Measurement; Manufacturing Processes and Production; and Maintenance Awareness. A full CPT Certificate is awarded to those who pass all four modules. Each Module consists of 30 hours of classroom time and 10 hours on-line.

Pre-requisites for the program are the completion of the NCRC (National Career Readiness Certificate) Silver Certificate and the ACT Workkeys Math Level 5.

The cost for the CPT Certification program is $940, which includes materials and MSSC testing fee, plus a one-time $60 MSSC program registration fee. The program is WIOA-approved. Please contact your local Workforce Development Board to determine eligibility. Scholarships are also available through Gaston College for those meeting eligibility requirements.

Classes for the program meet on the Gaston College Dallas Campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. or on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Saturday sessions include a 30-minute lunch break. The dates for each of the four Modules are as follows:
