Gaston College Health and Human Services Division hosts Open House event

The Gaston College Health and Human Services (HHS) Division will host an Open House Drop-in event on Tuesday, October 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the David Belk Cannon (DBC) Health Education Institute building on the Dallas campus of the College. The Open House is intended to introduce attendees to the wide selection of HHS programs at Gaston College.

Among the HHS programs offered are Cosmetology, Nursing, Esthetics, Early Childhood Education, Health and Fitness Science, Human Services Technology, Therapeutic Massage, Veterinary Medical Technology, Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy, Dietary Manager, and Dietetic Technician. Many careers in these fields are anticipated to show significant growth, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

High school students and their parents are invited to attend the Open House, as is anyone interested in pursuing a new career or advancement in HHS. Tours of the DBC building, where many of the HHS classes are held, will be offered, and instructors will be present to share information about the Gaston College HHS programs and career opportunities in the field.

“Community members should plan to attend the Open House to explore the many career options available to them,” said Dr. Allison Abernathy, Dean of Health and Human Services. “Our programs prepare students to be employer-ready and ready to transfer to a four-year degree program.”

Attendees to this free event can enter a drawing to win an iPad. Guests may purchase a Chick-fil-A sandwich and a beverage for $5 to enjoy at the event. The meals are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The purpose of the Gaston College Health and Human Services Division is to promote health, wellness, and human services programs, to provide quality instruction, and to produce graduates who will perform professionally in the community. Most of the Gaston College HHS programs have state and/or national accreditation. Students can earn certificates, diplomas, and Associate Degrees, and the program exceeds state and national licensure pass rates.
