CPR FOR HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS CERTIFICATION

All Phlebotomy students must be CPR certified in BLS for Health Care Providers before they can be assigned to an internship site. Your certification must be obtained through the American Heart Association or the Red Cross and must be completed before clinical assignments begin (around the 9th week of class). If you do not have a current CPR certification/card, how to obtain one will be covered in the course. Proof of completing this certification should be submitted to the Phlebotomy instructor.

Criminal Background Check and Drug Screen

NOTE: In order to comply with the current Student Affiliation Agreements, students accepted into the Phlebotomy Certificate Program will be requested to submit the Criminal Background Check and Drug Screen according to Gaston College procedures prior to placement in a clinical facility. The facility reserves the right to deny the student access to the facility. If the student is denied access, the student will not be allowed to complete the program.  Completion of clinical experiences is required for the satisfactory completion of the program. More information will be provided upon acceptance into the program.

Covid Vaccine/Flu Shot Information

While Gaston College is not mandating that students be vaccinated against COVID, it is a requirement for many of our clinical sites, and we must abide by any safety protocols or requirements put into place by our external agencies with which we partner for clinical rotations.

All Phlebotomy students are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and influenza due to clinical compliance requirements. Proof of vaccination is required.
