Lenoir-Rhyne University – Bear Bound
Bear Bound is a co-admission program for Gaston College students who would like to attend Lenoir-Rhyne University after completing their associate degree at Gaston College. The Bear Bound program provides community college students with a seamless and affordable pathway to a four-year degree. The program enhances student pathways and removes the obstacles transfer students often face when seeking a bachelor’s degree.
BENEFITS
In addition to the academic and student services you receive at Gaston College, Bear Bound students receive the additional benefits:
- Guaranteed admission to Lenoir-Rhyne University (LRU) upon completion of your approved associate degree
- A dual advising from both Gaston College and Lenoir-Rhyne University to help ensure courses align and will transfer
- ·A LRU student ID card to access and attend campus events including athletic, performing arts, and guest speaker events, the library, and other student activities
- Opportunity to qualify for additional financial aid assistance to help lower your costs, like the Lenoir-Rhyne Promise
ELIGIBILITY
Requirements to participate in the Bear Bound program:
- Completed your high school diploma (not currently enrolled in high school)
- Apply and be accepted to the Bear Bound Co-Admission program
- Must apply and enroll at Lenoir-Rhyne University in the semester following your graduation from Gaston College
- Complete your associate degree from Gaston College with at least a 2.25 GPA (cumulative), earning a C or higher in all completed courses:
- Associate in Arts (AA)
- Associate in Arts Teacher Preparation (AATP)
- Associate in Science (AS)
- Associate in Science Teacher Preparation (ASTP)
- Associate in Fine Arts – Visual Arts (AFA-VA)
- Associate in Engineering (AE)
- Associate in Applied Science in Nursing (AAS-Nursing/ADN)
- Associate in Applied Science (AAS) for which a Bilateral Agreement exists
Requirements for Lenoir-Rhyne Promise:
- Full-time North Carolina resident (at time of admittance)
- Transfer students must have a college GPA of 3.5 or higher at time of admission with a minimum of 30 attempted college credit hours from their institution.
- Students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), indicating LRU’s FAFSA code ‘002941’
- No separate application form is required.
- All students who meet the qualifications at time of admission will automatically be part of the program.
