The health care industry has a growing need for qualified nurses, and nursing programs at Gaston College have consistently been ranked among the best in North Carolina. Whether you are just starting to train as a Nurse Aide, pursuing a diploma or an associate degree in Nursing, or you are already working in the field and need some additional courses for certification, Gaston College has classes that are affordable and convenient.

Nurse Aide (CNA)

Nurse Aide I, Nurse Aide II, and Nurse Aide Refresher certificates are offered through our  Continuing Education division. If you are interested in obtaining Nurse Aide I, II or Refresher certification, visit our Nurse Aide CE page.

Practical Nursing (LPN)

The three-semester Practical Nursing credit curriculum prepares the student to care for patients with a variety of common medical-surgical problems in various stages of illness and to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN), required for practice as a practical nurse. This program offers both a day and evening option with a fall start. Graduates receive a diploma.

LPN to RN Option (Associate Degree)

The three-semester LPN to RN credit curriculum is designed for students that have already met the requirements to be a Licensed Practical Nurse and wish to further their education to include an Associate Degree. It is an evening/weekend/online program with a summer start.

Associate Degree Nursing (RN)

The five-semester Associate Degree Nursing credit curriculum is designed to prepare graduates to assess, analyze, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care. The graduate is eligible to apply to the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). It is a day program with a fall start.

RIBN (Regionally Increasing Baccalaureate Nurses)

RIBN is a 4-year program where students receive both their Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree after the first three years of study and continue on to receive their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Lenoir-Rhyne University.

RN to BSN

This pathway is for practicing Registered Nurses (RN) who aspire to achieve their Baccalaureate Degree (BSN). To meet the community demand for Baccalaureate prepared nurses, Gaston College has risen to the challenge to provide professional Registered Nurses with an affordable pathway that will allow them to meet all the requirements needed to enter into an RN to BSN program pathway.
