Lunch and Learn, February 18, 2016
Join the Gaston College’s Dietetic Technician students for snacks, demonstrations, and much more on Thursday, February 18 for two sessions featuring healthy food choices tailored to busy lifestyles and limited budgets. Students will share tips and tricks to help you in the kitchen by providing creative ideas on how to eat healthily on a budget and how to snack wisely. Session One will be held from 12:30 to 1 p.m., Room B and Session Two from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m., Room C, Gaston County Senior Center, 1303 Dallas Cherryville Highway, Dallas, NC. College Transfer Program Association Conference, February 19, 2016
Gaston College will host the spring conference for the College Transfer Program Association on Friday, February 19 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Myers Center, Gaston College Dallas Campus, 201 Highway 321 South, Dallas, NC 28034.

SPARC3 Professional Development Conference, March 18, 2016.
Gaston College will be hosting its fourth annual SPARC3 Professional Development Conference on Friday, March 18 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Rauch Science and Fine Arts Building, Dallas Campus. Check-in will begin at 7:15 a.m. This is an opportunity to earn six hours of professional development credit, while engaging in high-impact pedagogy with your colleagues.
While SPARC3 is a STEM focused initiative, instructors of all disciplines are invited to attend this workshop. Topics include student engagement, active learning, inquiry-based learning techniques, technology in the classroom, lab experiences/activities, undergraduate research opportunities, and more.

The First Annual NC Community College Health and Fitness Summit, April 18, 2016
The Gaston College Health and Fitness Science Program will sponsor the First Annual NC Community College Health and Fitness Summit on Friday, April 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the David Belk Cannon Building, Room 170, Dallas Campus.
This is the first time a statewide meeting has been held to organize all Health and Fitness Science Coordinators, Directors, and Faculty from all programs in the NC Community College system. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the program and any changes that need to be made at the state level, as well as best practices. The meeting will spearhead the kick-off of an official association and group that advocates for the Health, Fitness, and Physical Education in the North Carolina Community College system. The Medical Assisting Pinning Ceremony will be held Monday, May 9 at 7 p.m. in the Myers Center Multipurpose Auditorium, Gaston College, Dallas Campus. The Pinning ceremony signifies the completion of the Associate Science Degree in Medical Assisting. Students will receive their program pin which will be worn with their uniform after graduation. Phlebotomy Technician Certification Exam, May 11, 2016
The Phlebotomy Technician Certification Exam will be held on Wednesday, May 11 at the Gaston College Dallas Campus, David Belk Cannon Health Education Institute, Room 268.
The National Certification Exam is given by the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT). The review will begin at 9 a.m. and the exam at 11 a.m. A representative from ASPT will be present to administer and proctor the exam. Upon successful completion of the theory and hands-on demonstration portion of the exam, the phlebotomy graduates will be able to add the credentials of CPT, ASPT to their name. (Certified Phlebotomy Technician, American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians).
