The goal of the Gaston College Medical Assisting Program is to prepare competent entry-level medical assistants in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains.<\/strong><\/h2>\n
The medical assisting program at Gaston College has a five-year average of 92.50% for job placement for the years 2019-2023.<\/b><\/div>\n

The medical assisting program at Gaston College has a five-year retention rate of 83.64% for the years 2019-2023.<\/b><\/div>\n

The five-year average for the exam passage rate for the years 2019-2023 is 100%.<\/b><\/div>\n

OCCUPATIONAL RISKS<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n

Medical Assisting is a profession with many rewards, as practitioners can perform both administrative and clinical services, filling several roles in a variety of healthcare environments. The Bureau of Labor Statistics clearly outlines that it is a growth field, with an anticipated 18% growth from 2020 to 2030.<\/p>\n

Medical Assistants work directly with providers and patients, with the goal of providing healthcare and ensuring patient safety. It is a position with a great deal of responsibility.<\/p>\n

As with any healthcare position, there are certain occupational risks that come into play with being a medical assistant, and those hazards include the following:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • \u00b7 Exposure to infectious diseases<\/li>\n
  • \u00b7 Sharps injuries<\/li>\n
  • \u00b7 Bloodborne pathogens and biological hazards<\/li>\n
  • \u00b7 Chemical and drug exposure<\/li>\n
  • \u00b7 Ergonomic hazards from lifting, sitting, and repetitive tasks<\/li>\n
  • \u00b7 Latex allergies<\/li>\n
  • \u00b7 Stress<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Articulation Agreement<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n

    The Gaston College Medical Program has a 2+2 articulation agreement with the Cabarrus College of Health Sciences for a Bachelor of Science in Health Leadership for students who have achieved their Associate Degree in Medical Assisting. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
