Because of a generous endowment established by Altrusa International of Gastonia many years ago, the Gaston College Foundation is pleased to annually recognize an outstanding faculty or staff member of the College who personifies the College’s mission, vision, and values, with the Altrusa Award for Excellence.
Based upon criteria established by Altrusa club members, candidates for the Altrusa Award are judged on their involvement with students and the positive impact they have on their lives. Nominees must exhibit enthusiasm for life, concern for others, and a commitment to the concept of lifelong learning. They are also evaluated on their extraordinary accomplishments and their contributions to the College, community, or other civic activities. Emphasis is placed on the quality of contributions rather than quantity. Nominees must be full-time employees of Gaston College, and anyone may submit nominations for consideration.
Altrusa is an international non-profit organization making our local communities better through leadership, partnership, and service. Their club offers an opportunity to make a real difference in our community. They undertake a variety of service, literacy, fundraising, and international projects each year and they are always seeking new volunteers to join their organization in making a difference. Members are from varying occupations and lifestyles, all sharing an interest in community service and enjoying the friendship, fun, and satisfaction that comes from working together for the benefit of others.
