What is the SPARC Scholars Program
The Gaston College SPARC Scholars program is a scholarship initiative funded by the National Science Foundation under Grant Nos. (1355569 and 1742128) and a private donor to help offset the unmet need of Gaston College students. Scholarships up to $6,000 per student, per year, are offered to select full-time Associate of Science students, who plan to transfer to a four-year university after graduating from Gaston College, major in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM), and who show academic merit. The amount awarded is determined based upon federal financial need.
In addition to receiving scholarship funds to offset their unmet financial need, SPARC Scholars are part of a learning community with specially designed course schedules, in which they will work closely with other scholars and faculty members. SPARC Scholars also participate in undergraduate research experiences, extracurricular events, and field trips, as well as benefit from a mentoring relationship with a selected faculty member.
