LISA QUALLS, “SOUND OF SILENCE ART EXHIBIT,” May – SEPTEMBER 30, 2016

Gaston College is pleased to host the Sound of Silence, a solo exhibition of new works by Houston-based artist Lisa Qualls, on view at Jeanne Rauch Gallery. The exhibition will be on display through September 30, 2016.quilt

The Louisiana Portrait Project is a 5-year research project inspired by the people and the land of Louisiana.  Lisa’s goal was to visit each of the 64 parishes in Louisiana and document people, landscapes and stories/sounds from each parish. The plan is to exhibit the resulting body of work in chapters until all of the pieces are completed. The exhibit Sound and Silence is the third installment. The exhibit includes Hush (a visual and sound installation), portraits of Louisianans, and a new work Variorum (10’ x 20’ multiple layer drawing on canary paper).

The public will be able to meet the artists during a free public closing reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 29, at the Jeanne Rauch Gallery, which is located in the lower level of the Rauch Science and Fine Arts Building on the Dallas Campus, 201 Highway 321 South, Dallas, NC. Light refreshments will be served.

The gallery is open in the summer, May 30 – August 19, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (audio component runs Wednesday & Thursday). The gallery hours from August 22 – September 30, change to Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (audio component runs all week). Admission is free and the gallery is open to the public. CAREER AND COLLEGE PROMISE FACULTY ORIENTATION, AUGUST 19, 2016

Educational Partnership will hold a Faculty Orientation on Thursday, August 19, at 9:30 a.m., at Gaston Early College, Lena Sue Beam Commons Area, Dallas Campus. The session is for any faculty whom have high school students through the Career and College Promise Program. (This includes Gaston Early College, Lincoln Afternoon College, off-site at high schools, and face-to-face/online courses where CCP students take classes.

*TEXTILE TECHNOLGY CENTER – TEXTILE 101 CLASSES, AUGUST 25, 2016

Upcoming Textiles 101 classes will be held from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Gaston College Kimbrell Campus, 7220 Wilkinson Boulevard, Belmont, NC 28012. The classes will be held on the following days: Thursday, August 25; Wednesday, October 5; and Wednesday, November 16, 2016.

The cost is $95 per person.

The Inter Club Council will meet on Wednesday, September 7, from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. in the Student Government Conference Room, Room 216, Myers Center, Dallas Campus.

The Inter Club Council coordinates all activities sponsored by campus student organizations. It is charged with the responsibility of approving all efforts by Gaston College clubs including fundraising. Membership is composed of representatives from each of the campus clubs.

The Gamma Beta Phi Society Club will meet on Saturday, September 10, 10 – 11 a.m., Myers Center Café, Dallas Campus.

The Gamma Beta Phi Society is a not-for-profit service organization. This society provides scholarship, leadership, and good character. Membership is open to all students who have successfully completed twelve or more credit hours of college-level work. The student must have a cumulative grade point of 3.500.

The Textile Technology Center will be a part of the Advanced Textiles exhibition under the testing track.

 

*INDUSTRIAL FABRICS ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONAL EXPO, OCTOBER 18, 2016

This year, the annual IFAI Expo will be held at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, NC from October 18 – 21, 2016. The 2016 IFAI Expo will consist of 3 areas: Specialty Fabrics, Advanced Textiles, and Shade and Weather Protection. The Textile Technology Center will be a part of the Advanced Textiles exhibition under the testing track. Stop by the TTC booth, #A942 to learn more about the center, our capabilities, and see a live demonstration using the Elmendorf tear tester. STUDY TOURS CRUISE TO CUBA, DECEMBER 25, 2016 – JANUARY 1, 2017
