Community College system wide e-mail distribution groups by functional area - Use this document,
E-mail Distribution Groups, to target specific functional areas for e-mail distribution. The distribution groups are distributed system wide.
As a Live@edu customer, Gaston College will be doing an upgrade to Office 365 over Christmas Break.
After the upgrade is complete, users will have two accounts:
- An Office 365 account for access to all Office 365 services, including email.
- A personal Microsoft account they can use to access SkyDrive, Messenger, and other Microsoft services.
Gaston College - Technology Services will provide more information as it gets closer to the upgrade.

E-MAIL LOGO/DISCLAIMER UPDATE and SIGNATURE INSTRUCTIONS
Effective now, August 6, 2012 @ 5:45 am, the Gaston College LOGO and Disclaimer will be automatically appended to ALL external outgoing e-mail. Note: This will now appear in internal Gaston College e-mail.

We have instructions for Apple IOS and Android devices. We are still having issue with connecting BlackBerry devices but we are working on it.

Technicians are currently in the process of updating each computer on campus. Before the technician updates your computer you will be/have been using the web based access to your email. We are aware of a couple issues with the web based email while using Internet Explorer. (Login does not work or the login screen continuously pops up while using your web based email.) If you are having one of these issues please try using Mozilla Firefox as your browser and use the following address to get to the login screen. https://gcmail.gaston.edu/owa

The email migration was a success over the weekend. However like any migration process things get lost or overlooked. If you notice anything missing from your email, please email "Helpdesk.AD@gaston.edu" with your issues. We will get to them as soon as possible. You can email us from any inside or outside email account. Please be sure to include your full name, department, and a full description of the issue.
Please be aware of the following known concerns:
- Please check your calendars for any duplicate events
- The mobile device access is currently unavailable
We are working to resolve these issues as soon as possible.
Technology Services thanks the entire college for its patience and cooperation during the migration from Novell GroupWise to Microsoft Exchange (Outlook).
Email migration remains on schedule to be available on Monday, July 2 at 7:30am. Please check back Sunday evening for updated status information.
Email migration proceeding on schedule. Currently 50% of emails are converted to the new system. MIgration continues throughout Saturday night.

What are my login credentials?
Your login name to the new Outlook email will be your “WebAdvisor ID”@gaston.edu.
Your password will be your first three of the WebAdvisor ID and the last 4 of your Social Security Number (SSN).
Example: Your WebAdvisor ID is “JADOE” and your SSN is 123-45-6789, your password would be jad6789.
Note:Your account will not be accessible until Monday, July 2, 2012 at 7:30 a.m.
GroupWise to SHUT DOWN June 29, 2012
Gaston College’s GroupWise e-mail system will shut down permanently on Friday, June 29, 2012. Please complete any remaining business in the GroupWise system and log out by 5 a.m. on Friday, June. 29th. The new e-mail system, Microsoft Exchange (Outlook) will be accessible on Monday, July 2, 2012 at 7:30 a.m. At a later date, you will be provided access to your archives on the old e-mail system.
Information for accessing the new e-mail system via OUTLOOK WEB ACCESS will be provided to you on Thursday morning. A visual has been provided for your convenience on the Technology Services website

As we continue with the e-mail migration, you will also have the capability to access your e-mail in the upcoming weeks using Microsoft Office Outlook.

Change of the College System Office Email
Due to the Community College System Office's mandated change from GroupWise to the North Carolina NCMAIL System, the college system as a whole loses access to a shared email addressbook. Below are aids to help mitigate this loss.
