The faculty in the Art & Music Department includes highly qualified artists and instructors with years of academic and professional experience.

The course schedule includes daytime and evening courses.  Refer to Course Descriptions for course details, including course names

Our department has designed programs that will prepare students with the confidence, skills, artistry, knowledge, and course work needed for transfer to any four-year fine art or design program in the NC system.

Scholarships

Scholarships are available in the arts.  To apply, fill out a Financial Aid application and communicate with the department chair to set up an interview.

There is no portfolio review for admission to the art major.  However, prospective art majors may need to present a collection of their work in consideration for a scholarship.  Portfolios should include a variety of media.

All art and music courses are transferable to institutions in the University of North Carolina system.  Some of the courses may be used to satisfy the core requirement in humanities/fine arts.

Art students should confer with a member of the art faculty about course selection prior to registration.

Gaston College Art Galleries

A wide range of temporary exhibitions is scheduled each semester and lectures, gallery talks, and visiting artists supplement classroom and studio work.  The Art Department and the Student Art Club mount a Student Art Show & Sale in the fall and a juried Student Art Exhibition in the spring.

A Visual Harvest, a juried art exhibition, is present by Gaston College and the Gaston County Art Guild each fall in the Jeanne Rauch Gallery.
