Admissions Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old. (Graduates under 21 can drive intrastate only.)
- Must have a valid North Carolina Driver's License.
- Must be able to read and speak English well enough to take instructions from highway signs, to converse with officials, and complete the required reports.
- Reading Placement Test with a score of 64 (eighth grade level) or better must be completed before registration. You must bring your test results to registration. The reading test will be administered on January 7, 9:00 a.m-11:30 a.m., in Room 212 of the Myers Center (MC 212). You do not need an appointment.
- Must be able to obtain a North Carolina Class A permit before the highway-driving portion of your training.
- DOT physical and/or a valid medical card: This should be completed prior to enrollment. You may use a physician of your choice or we will recommend one for you and if necessary schedule your appointment at registration. A valid medical card is required for a CDL permit and license.
- DOT drug screen: This should be completed prior to enrollment. It may be performed during your physical but make sure you request a DOT drug screen. You may use a physician of your choice or we will recommend one for you and if necessary schedule your appointment at registration. A negative result is required to remain in class.
- Seven Year Motor Vehicle Record with no convictions in the past 3 years of: DUI, refusal to take a chemical test, hit and run, leaving the scene of an accident, or careless and reckless driving.
- High School or College Transcript (High School Diploma or GED is not required)
- Application for Admission
- All immigrants must show proof of permanent residency.

Tuition and Fees
Cost of tuition is $614.00 for North Carolina residents who have lived in the state for the past 12 months, payable at registration. We accept cash, check, money order, credit card or third party pay.
Out-of-state tuition is $2909.60.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need a GED or high school diploma to enroll in the course?
- No, but you must pass a reading placement test with a score of 64 (eighth grade level) or better to register.

Q: Do you have financial assistance?
- Veterans’ benefits may apply. Job training programs may apply. Contact your local employment agencies for eligibility.
Q: What type of equipment will be used during training?
- We have single axle day-cabs, tandem axle conventional sleeper tractors, 48 and 53-foot semi trailers and 28-foot standard double trailers. Several trailers will be loaded during the road driving portion of the class.
Q: Do all class schedules include night driving?
- Yes. All classes are required to have at least one hour of night driving. Night driving for the day class will be planned after normal scheduled hours.
Q: Do you do job placement?
- We work with many major carriers and local trucking companies that will hire our graduates. Recruiters from these companies also visit our classes.
Q: When should I have my DOT physical and drug screen done?
- A DOT physical and drug screen should be done prior to enrollment, if not we will work with you.
Q: Do I have to get my permit before I enroll in the class?
- No, the first week of class is spent in the classroom preparing you to get your permit, but you must have your permit before the road driving portion of the class.
Q: Do I have to do my final road test for my CDL at the DMV?
- No, at the conclusion of the class, our third party testers will administer the CDL final test.
