Associate in Applied Science Degree
(A20100)
- Associate of Applied Science Degree in Biotechnology
- The Associate of Applied Science degree in Biotechnology is the result of a regional collaboration between Gaston College, Central Piedmont Community College, Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, and South Piedmont Community College.
Students at any of these community colleges may enroll in the program and complete much of their course work on their home campus. They will enroll in Gaston College to complete their degrees, because Gaston College is the only regional community college offering the required specialized courses and has the only fully equipped biotechnology instructional laboratory in the consortium. Students will take a minimum of 16-18 credit hours at Gaston College to complete their degree.
- Associate of Applied Science Degree in Industrial Engineering Technology (Bioprocessing Option)
- Students in this program take the same total course load as those taking the AAS in Industrial Engineering Technology standard option. They substitute courses in biology, chemistry, biotechnology, and bioprocessing for some general engineering courses. This shifts the program focus to a bioprocessing emphasis on protocols and batch work in aseptic environments.
- BioNetwork BioEd Center at Gaston College
- The purpose of the BioEd Center is to develop innovative ways of using the internet to deliver more accessible biotech training around the state, using streaming video, computer animation, and a video-equipped biotech lab.
