- The Corporate Education Program is offering Supervision I on June 3, 5 and 10th and Supervision II on June 17, 19 and 24th from 6 to 9:30 p.m., Dalpiaz Student Success Center, Dallas Campus. Room 219 for Supervision I and room 119 for Supervision II. Both classes will end at 9 p.m. on June 10th and June 24th.
The cost for each session is $50.00. The Textbook for the classes "The New Supervisor's Survival Manual" is required and is available in the Gaston College Bookstore.

- The Firefighter's Muster and Open House will be on Saturday, June 14, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Regional Emergency Services Training Center on the Dallas Campus. Activities include firefighter and EMS competitions, police demonstrations and displays, and firefighter equipment displays.
- The new Business Fast Track Program will begin this fall at Gaston College. The program enables students to earn an associate’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management or Logistics in two years by taking traditional classes in Belmont two nights a week and enrolling in online courses.
- A sequence of business courses will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursday’s starting at 5:30 p.m. and ending no later than 10:00 p.m. Information sessions for the program will be held Tuesday, June 17th at 6:00 p.m. in Harney Hall, Room 201 at the East Campus of Gaston College, Belmont, NC. - The Pathway to Massage class series at Gaston College will give an overview of the Therapeutic Massage Program providing information on enrollment, program content, employment opportunities, and hands on experience to receive and give massage. The series will be held on Saturdays from 9 am to 5 pm at the Dallas Campus, June 28th, and July 19th, the Lincoln Campus, July 12th, and Belmont Campus on July 26th.
The cost is $50.00 unless you are unemployed; you have received notification of a pending layoff; you are working and earn wages at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines; and you are working and you are eligible for the Federal Earned Income Credit. All applicants must be 18 years of age. Seating is limited to16 candidates. The Technology Services Program for the successful installation of Wi-Fi in the Dallas Campus. Gaston College students, faculty and staff now have access to the wireless network through an authentication process at the Comer Engineering and Technology
Building Breezeway and the first floor of the Morris Library. The next location to come on line will be the Myers Center Cafeteria.
The Gaston College Foundation received $11,213 in donations and matching funds through the Community Foundation's Run for the Money 6. The funds support innovative programs and enrichment through the college’s mini-grant program for faculty, staff, and students.

SGA EXECUTIVE OFFICERS ELECTED AT GASTON COLLEGE
New executive officers for the Student Government Association of Gaston College were recently elected. Officers for 2008 – 2009 are (L to R) Jordan Blackmon, Vice President; Shelia Burris, Treasurer; Susan Decker, Secretary; and Zach Bryson, President.
Also elected were Senators John Barfield, Brittany Huddle and Jeremy Whitner. The SGA is an organization that encourages student leadership and participation in the concerns and activities of Gaston College.The group also acts as the student’s voice and represents their interests.
The SGA has many functions, some of which include: budget, advocacy, supporting student clubs and organizations, and programming & events. All Gaston College students are invited to attend weekly meetings, which are held at 8:00 a.m. on Thursdays in Myers Center Room 216. The Gamma Beta Phi is an honor-service organization that promotes scholarship, leadership, and good character. - Gaston College is sponsoring a program on “How to Benefit from the Growth of the Biotechnology and Life Sciences Sectors in the Charlotte Region,” on Thursday, May 15th, from 9 to 11 a.m. on the Lincoln Campus, 511 S. Aspen Street in Lincolnton. The program will include a presentation by the BioNetwork of the North Carolina Community College System, tours of the BioNetwork BioBus mobile laboratory and an opportunity to talk with experts. Also, the program will provide introduction to offerings at Gaston College that prepare workers for positions with biotech and life sciences companies in the region. The camp will introduce students to a variety of educational programs and possible professional opportunities that are available at Gaston College that will help them discover their future career path. Students can now make secure credit card payments online for tuition, fees and official transcripts, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. WebAdvisor is an online program where students can access information about classes, grades, and accounts.
The new program will help the College provide better customer service to students. Gaston College is one of 15 community colleges in the state to have this service.

GASTON COLLEGE HOSTS NC LIVE
Tim Rogers, Executive Director of NC Live led a focus group of Gaston College students, faculty and staff to determine how they are using NC LIVE, and to get feedback on what type of information NC LIVE can provide in the future.
NC LIVE provides North Carolina residents and students with online access to high quality and diverse information - searchable collections of magazine, newspaper, and journal articles, electronic books, historical materials, maps, and much more - covering a wide range of topics through community college’s like Gaston College, public libraries, the state's university system, and members of the North Carolina Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. NC LIVE can be accessed by computer from within an affiliated library or from home.

ONE HOME, ONE EARTH, ONE CHANCE; GASTON COLLEGE STUDENTS ENJOY SPRINGFEST AND LEARN HOW TO
PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT
Gaston College students enjoyed Springfest activities on April 21st and 22nd at the Lincoln and Dallas Campuses while learning more on “becoming green and protecting the environment.” Members of the Student Government Association furnished food, entertainment and t-shirts and distributed informational material and set up displays of items that can be recycled.
Students made a commitment to live greener by writing
down the ways they plan to reduce, reuse, recycle and conserve energy and water on paper leaves to be added to a wall size environmental tree.
