WSGE 91.7 FM Partners with Second Harvest Food Bank during their Fall Fundraiser!

WSGE 91.7 FM Partners with Second Harvest Food Bank during their Fall Fundraiser!

This fall WSGE 91.7 FM, the non-commercial public radio station that broadcasts from its studio on the Dallas Campus of Gaston College, will aim to raise $85,000 towards the operation and programming expenses at the station.

Beginning on Friday, October 27, WSGE volunteers and staff started to host the phone and on-air portion of the Fall Membership Drive. The membership drive is a vital method for fundraising that is WSGE 91.7fmused by most public radio stations nationwide. The goal of this membership drive is to raise the annual operational funds needed to support WSGE 91.7FM through the next fiscal year.

For the fundraiser, WSGE has partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina and the following businesses: The Park Manufacturing Company, Charlotte, N.C.; Fred Caldwell Chevrolet, Clover, S.C.; J & G Fence Company, Gastonia, N.C.; and The Three Musketeers Cleaning Service, Charlotte, N.C., in an effort to help distribute over 250 backpacks to at-risk children in the greater Charlotte area. These backpacks will provide the students with ready-to-eat nutritious food for the weekends and holidays, when school meals are not available.

WSGE’s “Thank You for Giving” campaign will focus on the gratitude this station has for its listeners and supporters. “One way we want to say ‘Thank You’ to the community was to find an incredible way to give back to the area,” said Cathis Hall, WSGE Station Manager. “Partnering with Second Harvest to provide healthy meals to low-income children is one small step we can take to give back and also show our gratitude for the support WSGE has received in the past.”

The business sponsors will assist the station with this program by agreeing to donate a backpack of food to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina (SHFBM) each time someone donates to the station. Although 100 percent of the funds received from listeners will support the ongoing operating expenses of the station, they will be the catalyst for donations to the food banks.

“With so many children, seniors, veterans, and even beloved family pets in need of food each and every day, we need our community’s help in spreading the word,” said Kay Carter, CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. “We appreciate organizations like WSGE who are so passionate about hunger advocacy and who come forward to generate awareness to help SHFBM.”

In addition, any person that donates by end of day on Sunday, October 29, 2017, will be entered to win a Bose Wave SoundTouch Music System IV. More information about the system can be found on the Bose website (www.bose.com). No donation is necessary to enter but a donation is necessary to support the Backpack Food Program.

The WSGE Fall Membership Drive kicks off Friday, October 27, and will continue until Tuesday, November 7, or until the $85,000 goal is reached. To donate online visit www.wsge.org or call the pledge line 877-270-WSGE (9743).
