George Ratchford, Vice President of Operations for PSNC Energy, will be the featured speaker at the Gaston College Alumni Speakers Series luncheon on Wednesday, October 12. The Alumni Speakers Series highlights Gaston College graduates who have gone on to successful and meaningful careers.

Ratchford began his career in the natural gas industry in 1980 as a pipe layer at PSNC Energy. Being on the crew gave him an opportunity to observe engineers at work and he decided to pursue that field. Ratchford attended Gaston College from 1982 to 1984 and graduated with an Associate of Science in Engineering. He then attended UNC-Charlotte where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1987. Ratchford returned to PSNC Energy as an assistant to a divisional engineer and subsequently worked in several areas of the company, including engineering, construction, materials management, and customer service operations. His management roles within the company led to his appointment as Vice President of Operations in 2013.

In addition to his role at PSNC Energy, Ratchford is very active in the Gastonia community, serving on several boards and volunteering his time to help the community grow and prosper.

Attending Gaston College was the right choice for Ratchford, and he believes that it presents excellent opportunities for today’s students. “Gaston College has a lot to offer and, like most anything, you can get out of it what you elect to put into it,” he said. “Gaston College has shown over the years it has increased its agility to meet the needs of the workplace to better prepare the students for the changing workforce needs.”

At the Alumni Speakers Series luncheon, Ratchford will discuss his experiences at Gaston College and the educational and career paths that led to his executive position with PSNC Energy.

The October 12 luncheon takes place from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Myers Center Auditorium on Gaston College’s Dallas Campus. Seating is limited. The event is free of charge and lunch will be provided. If you are interested in attending, contact Emily Dalton at 704-922-6513 or dalton.emily@gaston.edu.
