Gaston College launches new GC Promise Scholarship

Gaston College and the Gaston College Foundation announced the kick-off of a new scholarship initiative targeted at high-achieving high school student in Gaston and Lincoln counties. The GC Promise Scholarship will cover the cost of in-state tuition and fees at Gaston College, up to $5,000, GC Promise Logofor students who meet the eligibility requirements. The announcement was made by Dr. Patricia Skinner, President of Gaston College on Monday, August 7, during the annual Teaching and Learning Conference held at the Gaston College Dallas Campus. The GC Promise Scholarships are funded in part by the Gaston College Foundation, and in part by college funds. The maximum $5,000 amount per student is for two consecutive academic years.

“In the United States, there has been much conversation about ‘free college’ for students,” said Julia P. Allen, Chief Development Officer of Gaston College and Executive Director of the Gaston College Foundation. “We recognize that there is no such thing as ‘free college,’ but this is a great start for students in our area.
