Gaston College Receives $1.3 Million Bequest From Beam Estate
Few people have been as supportive of Gaston College as Cherryville’s Grier Beam and his wife Lena Sue. Now Mr. Beam’s estate has left Gaston College $1.3 million, one of the largest gifts in the college’s 46 year history. Funds will establish the C. Grier and Lena Sue Beam Family Scholarship Fund to be permanently held in the Gaston College Foundation with the interest providing scholarships and other financial assistance.

Gaston College Receives $1 Million Grant For Student Services
Gaston College has been awarded a grant of just under $1.1 million from the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program through the US Department of Education. The five year grant will be used to help increase the persistence, graduation, and transfer rates of low income students, first generation college students, and students with disabilities.

Student Success Workshops
If you are new to the online environment and need assistance with logging into Blackboard, campus computers and NetMail (your student email account and basic navigation skills), please plan to attend one of the SSS-1 Workshop sessions.
If you need assistance with Blackboard related items such as attaching documents, submitting assignments, posting to the discussion board, taking tests, etc., please attend one of the SSS-2 Workshop sessions.The workshops will be conducted in the Electronic Classroom in the Morris Library and will last 30-45 minutes. Fall 2011 Dates

Associate Degree Nursing(RN)
The Associate Degree Nursing office will begin scheduling appointments for the fall 2011 program beginning September 7, 2010. The deadline to schedule an appointment is December 7, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. Applicants must complete an approved NA I program by December 31, 2010 and have the required ACT, SAT, or TEAS test score. Contact Barbara Burgess at 704-922-6469 to schedule an appointment.

LPN to RN Alternate Schedule Option
Appointments for the summer 2011 LPN to RN program will be scheduled beginning September 7, 2010. The deadline to schedule an appointment is December 7, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. Applicants must possess a current license as a licensed practical nurse and have the required ACT, SAT, or TEAS test score or the required GPA in their biology courses.
