Gaston College will be a tobacco free campus on tobacco freeJanuary 1, 2012. The two-year college will join 30 NC community college campuses with tobacco-free campuses.

In May 2011, the College's Board of Trustees approved the new Tobacco-Free Campus policy. Some of the advantages of the new policy include:

            • Provides a healthy, comfortable, and productive environment for students and employees
            • Provides a safer, cleaner, greener, and more attractive campus.
  •  Provides the opportunity for tobacco users to quit or decrease the use of tobacco products, thus promoting better health.
  • Promotes direct and indirect savings through better health.
  • Allows for the re-assignment of resources to needs other than for the clean-up necessary due to tobacco use.

To help students "break-the habit" two-hour cessation sessions will be provided over a two-day period at all campus locations. Classes are open to Gaston College students, and to all members of their households. All classes are free of charge.

To register for any of the following sessions, please contact Sherry Lingafelt at 704.922.6379. (for more information.
