Are you between careers or looking for a new career? Gaston College offers a variety of classes, many free to persons who are unemployed or have been notified of a pending layoff, to help you explore career options or begin training for a new career. Courses are also offered in basic computer skills, "soft skills", money management, interviewing, resumes, job search, and workplace readiness in medical and office careers. Learn American Sign Language with a qualified instructor. ASL is the dominant sign language used with the deaf community in the US. It is a complete, complex language that not only uses hand signs, but also other movements and postures of the body in the art of communication and is the 4th most commonly used language in the U.S. In this fast, skill-based course, you will learn to communicate with the deaf community in the workplace and other venues.
A selection of career exploration courses are offered through Human Resources Development. These include Certified Nursing Assistant/Nursing, IT/OST, Construction, Massage Therapy, and Medical Office Administration.
