Basic Law Enforcement Training
(BLET)
CJC 100 Basic Law Enforcement Training (624 hours / 19 Credit Hours)
Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) is designed to give students essential skills required for entry-level employment as law enforcement officers with state, county, or municipal governments, or with private enterprise.
This program utilizes State-commission-mandated topics and methods of instruction. All instructors hold “General Instructor Certification” from the NC Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
Students must successfully complete and pass all units of study which include the certification examinations mandated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission to receive a certificate.
Admission Requirements:
BLET is a closed enrollment program. Not everyone who applies will be accepted into the program. The application process for this program is handled in the BLET offices and is not routinely handled by the normal admissions process.
Applicants hired or sponsored by a law enforcement agency will receive top priority on admissions. Sponsorship does not imply an obligation from the sponsoring agency to the applicant, nor from the applicant to the sponsoring agency. Sponsoring agencies are responsible for conducting background checks on applicants, and indicate whether or not applicants are suitable to participate in the program.
All students entering the BLET program must meet the special requirements as indicated by the NC Criminal Justice Standards and the NC Sheriff’s Standards Divisions of the NC Department of Justice. Students may not be convicted of any felony or criminal offense of moral turpitude. Examples of moral turpitude are, but not limited to: rape, any sexual offense, indecent liberties, use, sale, or manufacture of controlled substances, or any offense which addresses public morality. To be employed in this field, it is necessary to be a U.S. citizen.
Applicants must be in good physical condition, and be able to participate in strenuous physical activities.
Applicants must be at least 20 years old.
Applicants must be a high school graduate or equivalent from an approved accredited high school or GED program.
Applicants must complete the Compass Reading and Writing Placement Test. (Applicants must read at a 10th grade reading level or better)
