The Gaston College Foundation, Inc. (GCF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation chartered in 1968. It encourages and secures financial support to further the work of Gaston College, and is governed by a 15-member Board of Directors, all of whom are appointed by the Board of Trustees of Gaston College, but a majority of whom must be non-trustee directors. The foundation receives and administers both restricted and unrestricted contributions in support of Gaston College needs.
Unrestricted gifts to the Gaston College Foundation are allocated to areas of the College that have the greatest need. Donors may, however, designate contributions for a particular purpose. These include but are not limited to construction and renovation projects, instructional equipment; classroom or laboratory furnishings; scholarships for any program of study; faculty/staff professional development; college radio station WSGE; Friends of Gaston College Annual Giving Campaign; and/or Foundation endowments. Any contribution may be designated as an honor or memorial gift and honorees or their families are notified of the gift.

TYPES OF FUNDS
Endowments may be established to provide income for virtually any college area or purpose. Fund monies are permanently held by the Gaston College Foundation and invested. The principal remains intact, with only the interest or a portion of the interest used for the intended purpose. A minimum gift of $10,000, payable in one lump sum or over a three-year period, is required to establish an endowment in the Gaston College Foundation. Investment of Endowment Funds are handled by The Granzow Consulting Group of Wells Fargo Advisors.
Endowed or non-endowed scholarships may be established through the Gaston College Foundation. Endowed scholarships provide assistance in perpetuity while non-endowed scholarships are made on a one time or annual basis. In all cases, donors are given the opportunity to determine recipient eligibility and to determine guidelines for selection, in partnership with college financial aid office requirements. The Foundation Office provides recipient information to donors after funds have been awarded.
How To Apply For Scholarships
To be eligible for a Gaston College Foundation scholarship, applicants must satisfy all Gaston College admissions requirements including any required placement tests for their program of study and complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by going to http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. Applicants are then required to submit a scholarship application online through the STARS Program (Scholarship Tracking and Review System) at http://gcstars.gaston.edu/stars/. Applicants are considered for all scholarships for which they qualify. The application period is early January through March 31. Awards are made for the following academic year.

Friends of Gaston College Fund
The “Friends of Gaston College” annual giving campaign was introduced by The Gaston College Foundation Board of Directors to provide funding to the college on an ongoing basis. The campaign encourages annual gifts to provide for emergency financial assistance for Gaston College students as well as general support for the college as a whole. Gifts to the Friends of Gaston College Fund allow the college to help students address needs as they arise. Gifts also provide much-needed dollars for the college to use for program development, technology, equipment, and other critical needs.
